Students in Dr. Paul Ward’s History class at the University of Huddersfield work on a parallel project, examining objects of abolition from the local community in West Yorkshire. They created a UK Black History Month exhibit in partnership with Building African Caribbean Communities, and included material from our research on antislavery objects in Chatham and Oberlin. The exhibit was held in October in Huddersfield.  (Photos below)

Our parallel project emphasizes the importance of local community research, and the wider transatlantic context for antislavery work in the 19th century.
