CURL AGM and Year In Review

Each June, the CURL Steering Committee hosts an Annual General Meeting. At these meetings, we reflect on the past year and invite input from the Huron community to help us improve on our programming in the year ahead.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from hosting an in-person AGM for the 2019-2020 academic year. In its place, we’ve created an anonymous survey where you can provide suggestions for making our programming more helpful and accessible to students like you.⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Further, the Huron community has displayed incredible enthusiasm and resilience this past year, so we still have some exciting highlights to share!⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Throughout the 2019-20 school year, we:⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Showcased 50 student researchers in a wide range of disciplines at the 2019 Fall Exhibition.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Awarded $1500 Research Fellowships to 10 undergraduate researchers working on individual and collaborative projects in various fields⁣⁣.⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Supported the development of faculty-student research collaboration through 3 SIG awards⁣⁣.⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Fostered student research skills development through proposal-writing workshops and travel bursaries⁣⁣.⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Improved student access to CURL programming by hosting an open Q&A forum for interested students led by current CURL Fellows and faculty mentors.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
For the 2020-21 school year, we’ve continued to support you by:⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Opening Research Skills Bursaries to support digital skills development.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Creating Undergraduate Research Learning Assistant positions for Huron students⁣.
⁣⁣⁣
• Celebrating ongoing undergraduate summer research on CURL social media⁣⁣⁣.
⁣⁣⁣
• Hiring a CURL Student Web Assistant (welcome, Amy Luck!)⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
• Shifting our regular opportunities—fellowships, workshops, and conferences—online!⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣Besides the enthusiasm of an incredible set of dedicated student researchers and faculty mentors, these highlights were possible thanks to the efforts of Fernando N. D. (CURL Student Assistant), Leonid B. (Research Assistant), Sherri L. (Media Specialist), and CURL Steering Committee members. Thank you!⁣

We are so honoured to support Huron’s thoughtful, curious, and resilient community. Let’s keep at it!
