COVID-19 Announcements

Dear CURL Community,⁣

The Huron announcements yesterday regarding campus responses to COVID-19 will impact CURL in the following ways:⁣

The CURL Spring Conference scheduled for April 3, 2020 is cancelled. We have no plans to schedule a virtual alternative at this point.⁣

  • The CURL Summer Fellowship competition deadline is extended from March 15 until noon on Tuesday March 31 to allow extra time for student applicants and their faculty mentors. Fellowships will be adjudicated and announced virtually. Fellowship plans involving travel or human participants will still be considered but should include a contingency plan to complete the research. Fellowship winners will be announced in April on all our social media channels and on the CURL website. Recipients of the Fellowship should anticipate a delay in receiving their award.⁣
  • Current CURL Fellows and faculty mentors are reminded to check in with each other and to establish plans to ensure the project can be completed, including on an extended timeline as necessary. ⁣
  • CURL Researchers should note that any research requiring face-to-face in-person contact with human participants (e.g., data collection/testing, focus groups, interviews) is now suspended until further notice. If you are conducting online surveys or virtual meetings/interviews that do not require face-to-face interaction, this form of data collection may still proceed. All other standard research protocols and approval processes are still in effect.⁣
  • The CURL Travel Bursaries program remains suspended until further notice.⁣

⁣We regret missing the opportunity to hear from our student research community at the Spring Conference. Sincere thanks to all student presenters and volunteer event staff, to our keynote speaker, and to Huron faculty and staff members who support the conference annually.⁣

We hope to see you at the Fall Exhibition, scheduled for Tuesday December 1, 2020. In the meantime, we are available at curl@uwo.ca, and via our usual social media channels @huronresearch on Twitter and @curlathuron on Instagram.⁣

Sincerely,⁣

CURL Steering Committee
