Huron Research Policies

Research Policies at Huron

There are a number of important policy documents guiding research activities at Huron. As a researcher, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with, and adhere to, these policies. If you have any questions about how these policies apply to you please email curl@uwo.ca.

HUC Policy on Academic Integrity in Research
Good, original, and innovative research is a vital activity in a university and is integral to the mission of Huron University College. This policy outlines the Huron’s expectations for the conduct of research, defines misconduct in research activities, and outlines procedures to be followed when misconduct is suspected.

Huron Research Ethics Board Policy and Procedures
Canada’s three major granting agencies — the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) — have developed the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (2018), or TCPS 2. The TCPS 2 sets out standards and procedures governing research involving human participants (including the establishment of a research ethics board) at Canadian institutions, such as Huron University College, which receive funding from the Tri-Council.

Statement of Principles on Research Involving Indigenous Communities
This statement commits Huron researchers to conducing research with Indigenous communities from a position of partnership and mutual respect.

Statement of Principles on EDI in Research
This statement commits Huron researchers to promoting EDI in research, and to addressing inequalities in research policy and research practice.

CURL Accessibility Guidelines
This document offers a set of guidelines that identify and fill gaps between existing institutional policies guiding accessibility in CURL, and specific accessibility issues arising in CURL programming and operations.

In 2019, Huron adopted the Dimensions Charter, which is a Tri-Agency/Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) initiative to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in research. The Charter advocates the idea that the post-secondary research community has the greatest potential to thrive when members experience equitable, inclusive and unbiased systems and practices, and supports the advancement of these practices.

Huron also has a number of guidance documents relating to research learning and experiential learning which provide context for student research. These include:
