“Transatlantic Digital Victorians” Virtual Exhibits

Using historical objects from the Skelmanthorpe Textile Heritage Centre, a preserved 1920s weaver’s cottage, and Eldon House, an upper-class Victorian home in London ON, students in AIH2022 Digital Victorians and HIST3801E The Historian’s Craft have created “Transatlantic Digital Victorians”.  Supervised by Dr. Paul Ward, Huddersfield and Dr. Amy Bell, Huron, the two classes worked collaboratively through skype and social media to create digital history displays detailing the material history, provenance and significance of their chosen object.  Using hands-on, community-based research on both sides of the Atlantic, the project created a collaborative undergraduate student research network to explore critical questions in social, cultural, and imperial histories of the Victorian era.
