The primary objective of this note is to provide an introduction to the basic tools and techniques required to understand a company’s strategic position and make high-level decisions about a company’s future. This reading will introduce:
- The role of a strategic manager
- The strategic model (can, want, need analysis)
- Supply-chain analysis
- Business valuation
- How to approach strategic management decisions
Business strategy (also referred to as general management) integrates all functional areas to create a cohesive, high-level plan for the entire business. Business strategy typically examines the medium and long-term goals of the organization and guides resource allocation and development across functional areas to achieve these goals.
