Achievements

  • Established relationship with London Community Resource Centre as the host organization for purposes of validating the management of funds by the LWHP.
  • Thanks to Robin Keirstead, University of Western Ontario Archivist, the LWHP has established a relationship with The University of Western Ontario Archives to ensure all archival material identified and collected is preserved and available for future research, subject to appropriate access restrictions.
  • Established the criteria for women who would be recognized through this project, i.e., advocates, role models, innovators, influencers, educators, creators/artists.
  • Identified women who were founders or contributors to organizations that directly served women, e.g., London Abused Women’s Centre, Sexual Assault Centre, London Status of Women Action Group, etc.
  • Identified additional women who were role models, influencers, and innovators.
  • Identified some 20 or more London organizations that were founded in the period 1960-1980 in support of women seeking to be safe, or to achieve greater independence, or to realise their rights.
  • Transcribed 25 interviews with London women who were active on behalf of women during the period of second wave feminism. These interviews were conducted by the London Status of Women Action Group in the late 1970s and will be added to the Archives by the end of 2012.
  • Supported “Oral Histories, Women’s Histories” a full course offered at the University of Western Ontario, 2009-2010, during which 54 interviews of women who were active in London during the period 1960-2000 were prepared and have been lodged with the Western Archives.
