Provenance A: Binding  Bound in light brown blind-stamped calf with marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Front board contains the gilt armorial stamp of Charles Barclay (1780 -1855). Spine contains six compartments. Compartment two has title “Brooke’s Succession” in gilt on brown leather label. Compartments one and three to six have gilt floral ornaments. “1622” tooled in gilt at foot.
Provenance B: Ownership Marks Copy contains the armorial stamp of Charles Barclay (see under binding), and the book label of John Emmerson on inner front pastedown. Title page contains the early inscription of “Robert Cary 1631,” likely a reference to Robert Carey, First Earl of Monmouth (1560-1639), son of Henry Carey, First Baron Hunsdon (1526-1596).
Provenance C: Annotation Copy contains extensive genealogical notes relating to the Carey family on front endpapers and on p. 392. Additional notes on other families found on back endpapers.
