Provenance A: Binding  Bound in modern goatskin with blind-tooled ornamental roll over beige book cloth. Spine contains six compartments with gilt ornaments on bands and title “Brooke’s Catalogve and Svccession” in gilt in compartment two and “MS Annotations & Additions” in gilt in compartment three. Recto of final endpaper contains ink stamp “Rebound by Robert Lunow, November 1956” Folger communications notes the copy was previously bound in “rough calf”.
Provenance B: Ownership Marks Copy contains ink stamp reading “Sir T. Phillipps. Middle-hill 1843” on recto of front endpaper. Copy purchased by Folger from the Sotheby auction of Sir Thomas Phillipps’s collection on April 24th, 1911. Title page has “The Authours guift”. This is one of several surviving gift copies.
Provenance C: Annotation Copy contains loose MS. facsimile in an early hand describing Brooke’s imprisonment and extensive manuscript notes, including some on several interleaves throughout. Annotations include genealogical diagrams, supplements and cross-references. See for example reference to Stowe on sig. B2v, and verso of first interleaf and Sandford on sig. B2v, verso of first interleaf, recto of interleaf after B4, verso of fourth interleaf and recto of interleaf numbered 581. Additional MS. notes pasted over existing marginal notes, possibly in the same hand.
