Call Number:  9915 c.8
Provenance A: Binding Bound in gold-tooled red goatskin with gilt dentelle edges and marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Gilt crown found at centre of both front and back pastedowns.
Provenance B: Ownership Marks Copy contains the large signature of “Tho[ma]s Beckwith” on recto of fourth front endpaper with verso of third front endpaper containing printed label reading “THOMAS BECKWITH, PAINTER, In Lady Pecket’s-yard in the Pavement, York”. Head of title page contains the inscription “Tho[ma]s Beckwith Painter in York 1755”. Additional passage by Henry Dethick (1623-1707) signed “HD[?]” on recto of fourth front endpaper includes a critical commentary on Ralph Brooke that has been copied from other heralds, including Henry Lilly (1588/9-1638), and affirmed by William Dugdale (1605-1686). For more on Dethick, see, British History Online. Another inscription, in a later hand, suggests that the notes within the copy are by Dethick.
Provenance C: Annotations Copy contains a few MS. notes in an early hand cross-referenced to reign and year on front endpaper. Copy extensively annotated by Dethick with a mix of supplements, corrections, and cross-references. See, for example, pp. 212, 213, 228, 229.
