Research Conference April 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em>Writing Rights, Righting Wrongs: Transatlantic Narratives of Race <\/em><\/strong><\/span>is an interdisciplinary conference showcasing undergraduate research on racial slavery, narratives of race, antislavery resistance, and civil rights. Student researchers from Huron University College, Oberlin College, SUNY-Geneseo, and Bath Spa University will present papers, digital projects and posters, focused on the regional culture of the Great Lakes and its links to wider currents of activism in the Atlantic world.\u00a0 Award-winning poet Cecily Nicholson is our keynote speaker, and will read from her latest book of poetry, <a href=\"http:\/\/talonbooks.com\/books\/wayside-sang\"><strong><em>Wayside Sang<\/em><\/strong><\/a> .<\/p>\n<p><strong>When: April 11, 2018\u00a0 9:00-3:00<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Where: Great Hall and Huron Commons, Huron University College<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Click here for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huronresearch.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/03\/Conference-Full-Schedule.pdf\">Conference Schedule<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing Rights, Righting Wrongs <\/strong>is part of the wider undergraduate research learning collaboration inaugurated in 2016-17 between Huron and Bath Spa University, titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huronresearch.ca\/phantomsofthepast\/\"><em>Phantoms of the Past<\/em>: <em>Slavery and Resistance, History and Memory in the Atlantic World<\/em><\/a>. The <em>Phantoms <\/em>project mobilised students and faculty from Huron University College and Bath Spa University, and local community research partners on both sides of the Atlantic, re-appropriating and reframing the British imperial context as a site of research on histories and memories of racial slavery and resistance<\/p>\n<p><em>Writing Rights, Righting Wrongs <\/em>is supported by the Department of History at Oberlin College, the Department of History, SUNY-Geneseo, the English Literature Department at Bath Spa University, the <a href=\"http:\/\/gala.network\/about-gala\/\">Global Academy of Liberal Arts<\/a>, the W.
