{"id":40,"date":"2016-07-21T00:05:05","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T00:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.huronresearch.ca\/history\/?p=40"},"modified":"2016-09-27T17:18:58","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T17:18:58","slug":"fall-2016-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.huronresearch.ca\/history\/2016\/07\/21\/fall-2016-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Application for &#8220;Phantoms of the Past&#8221; Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Phantoms of the Past: Slavery, Resistance, and Memory in the Atlantic World\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is\u00a0an exciting new project for English and History students at Huron, and colleagues at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bathspa.ac.uk\/\">Bath Spa University<\/a>\u00a0in the UK.\u00a0Through the project, undergraduate student researchers at Huron and Bath Spa will create a transatlantic and collaborative network to explore 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 19<sup>th<\/sup>-century slavery and antislavery movements through histories, texts, images, and cultural memory. \u00a0At both of the partner universities, up to ten students will have the option to participate in a week-long research exchange\u00a0visit to the partner university. Huron will head to the\u00a0UK, during our reading week in February (February 17-24). Airfare, local\u00a0travel and most accommodation costs for the trip to England will be covered through the support of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huronresearch.ca\/history\/w-galen-weston-fund\/\">W. Galen Weston Fund for British History<\/a>; a Huron Pilot Research Fund grant held by Drs.
