How to Post your Comics:

Please note: Class of Fall 2021, you will only have to do step 1 and step 2.

Step 1: Scan your Images

  • Once you’ve completed your comics do a full-colour (image) scan.
  • Please Note: Images should be set to 72 dpi when scanning.

Step 2: Prep your Images

  • Images are to be 800px (pixels) in height, width does not matter much in this case, though it should be roughly between 500-600px. Make sure width is the same on every image.
    • Please Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop, once Photoshop opens and you see your image in the window, click on “image” in the menu, then “Image Size”. You will be greeted with a window where you can alter the size of your image. These are linked by default, so if you simply enter “800” into the height box, the width will auto-size along with it. For Photopea, instructions are identical to photoshop. If using GIMP, click on “Image” in the top menu and then “Scale Image,” same instructions apply. In all cases, make sure the image DPI is set to 72.
    • An alternate option is to create a new document in whichever program you are using, make sure resolution is set to “72”, width between 500 and 600 pixels and height set at 800, with “color mode” being set to RGB. Once this document is created you can open up your images separately in your chosen program and then just copy and paste them into the new document you created. You will have to “transform” or “scale” the image to fit your new document. Remember, shrinking the image is ok, enlarging is not. Also be careful to to skew your image during resizing if you choose this method.
  • Once you are ready, save the image as a High Quality JPEG. In Photoshop: File > Save As > Select JPEG from the “Save as type” drop-down menu > Select: SAVE > Settings are as follows: Quality 12 “Maximum” ; Format Options: Baseline (“Standard”) > Select: OK > Done!
  • Repeat this process for each page.

Step 3: Create a “Flip Book”

  • Login to huronresearch.ca/frenchcomics
  • On left-hand side menu, select “dFlip Books”
  • Select “Add New Book” (Found at the top of the page, next to the title)
  • Enter title of your Comic Book
  • Click on “Upload Images” > click on the “Upload Files” tab > Drag and drop your JPEGs onto the window, or click on the “Select Files” button > Highlight only your images (there will be others from your classmates who’ve already uploaded theirs) > Select “Add”
  • Once all your images appear in the images box, you can click and drag them into the proper order
  • Under Layout tab:
    • Leave all settings default except the following:
      • You can choose to set a background image or colour
      • Scroll down to where it says “Auto Enable Sound” and choose “False”
      • Under “Auto Enable Sound” you will see “Enable Download” – set this to “False” as well.
  • Publish the book: Click the blue “Publish” button in the top right-hand corner of the screen
  • Copy your book’s shortcode: Clicking on Photo Books will bring you to a list of the current books available, find yours and you will notice a “Shortcode” listed next to it, copy this shortcode (with the [square] brackets)

Step 4: Create a Post

  • On the left-hand menu, select “Posts”
  • At the top of the screen, select “Add New” (the button is next to the title)
  • Enter your comic’s title in the title textbox
  • Paste your comic book’s shortcode into the body textbox
  • Scroll down a bit until you see the “Featured Image” box, which is found on the right-hand side of the screen
  • Click on “Set featured image”
  • Select your cover, or you may upload an image to fit the featured box properly, the featured box supports images that are 360px wide and 260px high. PLEASE NOTE: if you just select your cover it will post an image of the centre of the page that fits within the themes pre-designed box shape.
    • Side Note: If you are using Photoshop to create a featured image:
      • Open Photoshop
      • Click File > New > settings should be 72 for resolution, color mode: RGB > Set width to 360 pixels and height to 260 pixels > Click OK
      • Copy and paste desired image
      • You can move around and resize the image to your liking, though I do not recommend making images larger as they will appear blurred. To resize, make sure the proper layer is selected (if you just copy and pasted the image, it is selected by default), hold down the CONTROL key and press “T” > this will allow  you to resize/reshape the image however you see fit, when done save as a high quality JPEG
  • Once you’ve selected your featured image, click the blue “Set Featured Image” button at the lower left-hand side of the screen
  • Look for the “Format” box in the same right-hand column and select “Gallery” from the available options
  • Click on the blue “Publish” button
  • You are done! it should now show up on the main page!
