The death of George Floyd in Minnesota and the renewed activism of the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States and Canada has led to waves of peaceful protest against anti-Black racism and violence. Supporters of the Black Live Matter movement in Chatham-Kent organized a march on June 6, 2020, urging socially-distanced participation, and mapping a route that was deeply linked to the history of Chatham’s historically Black community, the history of Black activism in Chatham, and the city’s history of de facto racial segregation. Over 2000 people attended the event, rallying first at the WISH Centre and Black Mecca Museum, and travelling along King Street to the Civic Centre.<\/p>\n
