The Toronto Women\u2019s Press Club was created as a chapter of the Canadian Women\u2019s Press Club in 1909. The organization was founded by a group of women journalists who noted their exclusion from male dominated press and print associations. The national group boasted members including Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy, and Lucy Maud Montgomery. They hosted an annual convention to allow women in the industry to connect and to bolster print networks across the nation. The Toronto branch also hosted more general events to foster community and support for women\u2019s literature. In April of 1921, the group hosted a poetry reading. The success of the reading led them to the creation of Verse and Reverse<\/em>, a collection of the group\u2019s work that is included in this exhibition.
